If you read the bottles page you know that our bottles contain straight alcohol, not cocktails. The reason for this is twofold: 1) straight alcohol can be left in the bottle indefinitely without refrigeration and 2) we use the alcohol in the bottle to mix multiple cocktails. This page presents the drinks we served using alien spirits such as Saurian brandy, Andorian ale, Kanar, and Langour, as ingredients.

MY PHILOSOPHY regarding FOOD and DRINK

Ferengi Rule of Acquisition 163: A thirsty customer is good for profit, a drunk one isn't.

Much of the food and drink seen on-screen was made using unappetizing or inedible ingredients because it was not meant to be palatable, or even eaten, it was meant to look like whatever the script called for.

Since we consume what we serve, and we want to enjoy it, we spent a lot of time devising drinks that would look like what was seen on-screen but actually tasted good!

It was also important to us that the drinks be unusual; in other words, not what most Americans ordinarily consume whether they prefer alcoholic or non-alcoholic concoctions. Fortunately, those ingredients are easily available to us but they may be hard to find for people who live in remote areas. While some are available online, state laws may prevent you from importing them. What you cannot find, you can make, using a book like this one, Infused by Susan MacNeal

A few of the recipes below are common cocktails with the names of the ingredients changed to "alien" names; the rest were developed by us to use the ingredients we wanted to serve. What we usually did was take a common recipe and change one ingredient. For instance, the Cool Blueblood Martini is a classic martini made with Magellan gin which happens to be a light blue color. Using this method, you can create your own cocktails to suit your own tastes.

KC didn't like the term "virgin" – it connoted, for him, visions of Shirley Temples and Kiddie Cocktails which he refused to serve, so he coined the term "ALCO-NULL" which is what we now use. Please give him credit if you choose to use it.

All of the alco-null recipes were developed by us. We took non-alcoholic versions of the ingredients (for instance elderberry syrup instead of elderberry liqueur) and played around with the proportions until it tasted good. They are as complex as the alcoholic version, not merely the alcohol-free components of the cocktail.

Finally, it was important to us that all our guests find something acceptable to drink regardless of their dietary restrictions so in addition to the alco-null versions of most cocktails, we also served a selection sugar-free and low-calorie beverages. All of these were also given alien names and the labels on the bottles were covered with custom made labels created by John Harrington of Cedar Street Studio .

Shown below are the names and ingredients for the 35 mixed drinks we served in 2010. This is exactly what our bartender's recipe cards look like because the labels on all the bottles have been changed to their alien counterpart. I will not be providing the translations because I feel that whatever drinks you serve should reflect your taste, not ours. The "recipes" are presented here only to provide inspiration and examples of what is possible. Are you Klingon? Then change the names/ingredients to reflect your heritage! In the future, I will be providing translations for some of the drinks on the forums I belong to, Alec Peter's Invisionzone and The Klingon Empire .

Antarean Brandy Thruster

ALCOHOLIC version

1/4 oz papalla brandy
1/4 oz utu mauti spirit
1/4 oz rulot vodka
1/8 t. lime juice
ALCO-NULL version

1/4 oz papalla juice
1/4 oz utu mauti syrup
1/4 oz synth traggle liqueur
1/4 t. lime juice

Add all ingredients to cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake well and strain into shot glass
No garnish.

ALCOHOLIC version

1 oz katterpod vodka
2 oz Antarian glow water
1-2 squirts papalla juice
Splash fresh jacarine juice
Arcturian fizz or club soda
ALCO-NULL version

2 drops katterpod essence
4 oz glow juice
2 squirts papalla juice
Splash fresh jacarine juice
Arcturian fizz or or club soda

Place a yellow bioluminescence cube into large cocktail glass
Add all ingredients to cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake well and strain into glass
Garnish: purple and/or yellow luster dust and icoberries on spican gem pick.

.5 oz Merry's Irish cream liqueur

Layer in order given.
(for alco-null version wedge marshmallow in top of glass and drop firewine on top)
Light firewine and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Bajoran Fire Cave Margarita

ALCOHOLIC version
1/8 t. smoked rekja powder
1/4 t. green rekja flakes
1/2 oz rekja-lime syrup
3/4 oz Makara wine hot
1 oz Makara wine mild
1/4 oz solar flare schnapps
1/2 oz lime juice
ALCO-NULL version
1/8 t. smoked rekja powder
1/4 t. green rekja flakes
1/2 oz rekja-lime syrup
1 oz traggle nectar
1 oz moba juice
1/2 oz synth traggle liqueur
1/2 oz lime juice

Rim half the glass with honey and coat with green rekja flakes. Fill with ice and set aside.
Muddle rekja flakes and smoked rekja with rekja-lime syrup in tall mixing glass.
Add lime juice, Makara wines and schnapps, fill with ice, and shake 10 times vigorously.
Strain through tea strainer into prepared glass.
Garnish: none

Cardassian Kanar Roktail

ALCOHOLIC version
2 oz rokassa juice (optional)
dash klavaatu bitters
2 oz Kanar



ALCO-NULL version
2 oz rokassa juice (optional)
2 oz black lemonade





Fill rocks glass with ice.
Pour rokassa juice in first, add bitters if using and stir to combine.
Top with Kanar (or black lemonade)
Garnish: Bajoran lilac on flat stick laid on top of glass.

Add all ingredients to cocktail shaker filled with ice.

1 oz burnt Prometheus syrup

Combine cider and Prometheus extract in mug.
Spike with liqueurs if desired.

Combine all in glass and shake LIGHTLY to combine.
Strain into glass and add extra rekja powder for extra bite.

Fill glass with snail shells
Combine all but snail juice in shaker filled with ice.
Shake to combine and strain into glass.

Combine vodka and schnapps in cocktail shaker ½ full of ice and let sit while you toast the Delvan fluff
Give shaker 10 good shakes.
Add Ktar and schplict and give it another 15 shakes.
Strain into glass.
Garnish: toasted Delvan fluff on white tulip pick
